Poem: You have the power, the freedom
You have the power, the freedom
The afternoon sun dances on freshly cut grass.
The wind carries sweet, soothing chimes.
Airplanes and cars pass by—life is always moving forward.
Forward into what?
Can we be okay with not knowing, with not having all the answers?
Abandonment.
Alcoholism.
Shame.
Loss.
Sadness.
Grief.
Self-doubt.
Despair.
Shunned.
Alone.
Pain.
Fear.
Insecurity.
Distrust.
Betrayal.
Disconnection.
I have carried each of these emotions, swallowing them whole,
Allowing them to consume the true essence of my being.
Like so many of us,
We live our lives tethered to stories we’ve crafted,
Emotions anchored to memories
That burn within us on a cellular, soul-deep level.
Some of us run, desperate to escape.
We numb ourselves with busyness,
With drugs, alcohol, sugar,
Uppers and downers, food, sex, shopping…
The list is endless.
Others of us live shackled by fear,
Terrified we’ll never be enough,
Afraid to step into who we’re meant to be.
We battle through life,
Trying to prove our worth.
But to whom?
Some stay in relationships that drain the life from us—
Unhealthy marriages, empty partnerships.
We cling out of fear:
Fear of being alone.
Fear of starting over.
Fear of the unknown.
We choose convenience, comfort, or endure abuse,
Even as our insides scream and beg for attention.
I hear you—the unknown can be terrifying.
And some of us retreat,
Hiding away in self-imposed isolation,
Believing it’s safer to be a hermit
Then to risk another wound.
We do all these things to protect ourselves,
To shield our hearts and souls.
I see you.
I have been there, my beautiful friend.
I have felt every one of these emotions,
Fought through them.
What emotions are you hiding away?
What part of you is begging to be set free?
You don’t have to remain a prisoner in your own cage.
Here’s the truth: you already hold the key.
Aren’t you tired?
It’s time to rest.
It’s time to restore.
You have the power, the freedom,
To unlock yourself from the lies that bind you.
To release the toxic patterns and unnecessary pain
That weighs you down.
It’s time to step into your light.
It’s time to let yourself shine.
